I ran across this photo the other day while tripping down memory lane. I am the tall one on the far right and the other two girls were my closest childhood friends. Angela was my best friend and is in the middle. Dixie, my cousin but more like a sister, is on the far left (she is adorable in this photo and I am very inspired to create a new character modeled after her).
Angela lived with her grandmother who had the coolest trunk of old formals and she let us play with them whenever we wanted. The stunning number I am wearing was The Dress that we all fought over. I won the battle that day. I remember going over to Angela's and we would put on our dresses and, like magic, our lives were transformed. We became princesses and dancers, whatever our imaginations dreamed. Then we would run barefoot all over town feeling amazing in our special dresses. It was even more perfect if it rained and we would dance in the mud puddles in our gorgeous gowns.
Looking back at this picture, I realize how much of that old me still exists. I am still that goofy little girl (and still have the same hair - oh my!) and would love to play dress up again and run through mud puddles, but I'd probably be locked up so I won't do it... or maybe I will ... so, if you don't hear from me for a bit... :-)
If you haven't done so in a while, go back through the old family photos. There's a wealth of inspiration for an artist. It will take your emotions on a ride and that emotion, when channeled properly, can be invaluable to a creative soul.
If you do this I would love to hear your story. Please email or share in comments and feel free to link to your post about a similar topic.

I am a nostalgic person even though I would never want to repeat my childhood EVER lol. Sometimes I even hate looking through my yearbooks thinking "god I should have cut my hair" or "Why the heck didn't we hang out every weekend AFTER graduation"
and then I put the book down and remember what year it is and feel a little sad about it. Nostalgia is mostly bitter sadness.
but even as an adult I feel like I've completely changed whenever I put a dress/skirt on. Sometimes I'll put on a pouffy skirt and just wear it around the house like magic. magic.
Melle, I hear you with the yearbooks! My questions is "Why did I use Sun In on my hair and turn it orange... before prom" - way scary.
It is so great how just putting on something fun can transform how we feel.
Hi Lainey!
Oh my goodness, I enjoyed this post! I used to do this at my Gram's! She had my aunt's and mom's formals...I LOVED that! We have pics of me at the Thanksgiving dinner table dressed in that scratchy tulle dress!!!! hahaha
Thanks for dropping by my blog and your kind inspiration!
I agree with the old photo inspiration....I'm about to put myself in a Captured Fairie Cage...I was dressed like a fairie in kindergarten!
Have a great Thanksgiving!
